What's your story?
Caroline Selmes is a French illustrator currently based in Barcelona. She has previously lived and worked in London, Madrid, Paris, and Toulouse.
A few years ago, she took on the exciting (and slightly terrifying) challenge of reinventing her style after a decade working in children’s illustration. In this process, she moved towards a more stripped-back visual language, exploring black and white compositions and a limited but strong color palette, while embracing a more hand-drawn and intuitive approach.
Her current work is bold, playful, and often infused with humor and surrealism. She enjoys creating quirky characters, expressive plants, and dreamlike landscapes that sit between the familiar and the absurd.
Alongside her illustration practice, she is the founder of Wild Pencils, a series of illustration, drawing, and mural workshops based in Barcelona. Nature and community are central to her life and practice. She also runs Satalia Green Guerrilla, a small shared urban garden in Barcelona.
